ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership

Focus on Facility Funders: Province of Alberta's Community Facility Enhancement Program

The Community Facility Enhancement Program is a provincial government grant aimed to foster the unique characteristics of the bountiful municipalities of Alberta. Like a snowflake, no two communities in Alberta are the same, and with each having their own set of unique needs this grant was created to provide distinct communities with the funds needed to develop or enhance local facilities.
The province does not use tax dollars to fill this grant. Instead they reinvest revenue made from provincial lotteries and contribute a portion of that to the Community Facility Enhancement Program. This grant is unavailable to For Profit companies and Municipal Governments and is intended to support Not for Profit organizations.
Depending on the needs of the community receiving the grant, funding assistance can be received for a: planning study, capital project or equipment, combination of a study and/or capital project or special needs such as disaster funding requests. Applications are accepted for this program four times a year.
Synergy applied directly to the Province through Alberta Culture and Tourism, early in 2015, with hopes of securing some of the funding required for a much needed Not for Profit operating space in Chestermere. Synergy applied for $125,000 to construct The ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership, and was granted $100,000.
Development of the ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership is a proactive step to increase Chestermere’s social infrastructure and is becoming reality, thanks to a strong partnership between the Not for Profit system, business funders, individuals and government grants such as this one.
Synergy will be using the money from this government grant, pooled with funds received from other sponsors for two major purposes. The first being the construction of the building, and the second being the creation of underground utility connections such as sewer, gas, water and electricity.
Featuring 2280 square feet of operating space including meeting room and program space, the ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership is to be utilized exclusively by Not for Profit organizations and the Community Organizations who partner with them. Other Not for Profit organizations are invited to explore the option to share space at the Centre with the expectation that these organizations will contribute to the operating costs associated with the new community facility.
Synergy is very grateful to have been granted these funds which will enable them to better serve the community and allow for more opportunities to collaborate with other community organizations.
