Lemonade Day is fast approaching and all around Chestermere there are young entrepreneurs brain storming, planning and gearing up for the big event on June 11th.
To help build up some enthusiasm and add to the fun, the Lemonade Day organizing committee held a Lemonade Contest on Thursday June 2nd to see just which of these lemonade tycoons will be serving up the best lemonade on June 11th.
The June 2nd competition and mentor session had over 100 people in the lobby at the Chestermere Municipal Building where Economic Development Officer, David Petrovich, went over some last minute business tips that the young entrepreneurs could use for their big day.
Those that wished to participate in the Best Lemonade contest, brought along a pitcher of their secret lemonade and cups. They were each assigned a number, so that the judges were not aware of who made which delicious drink.
The judges, consisting of, Deputy Mayor Gail Smith, Councillor Patrick Watson,
Century Carpet One Local Manager, Frank Lavallee and members of the Chestermere Fire Services were then tasked with sampling the lemonade and narrowing it down to the final four.
The four finalists were Mercedes Campbell, William Howes, Logan Wilson and Mackenzie Guider. The judges then re-sampled the lemonade of the four finalists, and the winners were chosen.
4th place – Mercedes Campbell
3rd – William Howes – $100 Mastercard/Visa (prepaid)
2nd – Logan Wilson – $200 Mastercard/Visa (prepaid)
1st – Mackenzie Guider – $300 Mastercard/Visa (prepaid)
The top winners also received a ribbon that they will have displayed at their Lemonade Day stands on June 11th.
Petrovich adds, “I want to encourage everyone in the city to cut out the full page ad in the Chestermere Anchor City News or print off the map on Chestermere.lemonadeday.org and visit several stands on Saturday June 11th to support our youth. We have had almost 100 attendees at each of four mentorship sessions because our youth want to learn how to be entrepreneurs and are excited about this. The community needs to support their enthusiasm!!!”
Deputy Mayor Gail Smith, who was one of the lemonade contest judges and also announced the winners, had this to say, “”Chestermere has been blessed with hundreds of young talented entrepreneurs. This Lemonade Day Program gives them the tools to explore possibilities for their own future endeavours”.
Smith continued, “I am very proud of all of the participants in the Pre-Lemonade Day Taste Contest. They did an excellent job and showed creativity and innovation in their products. Residents are sure to be impressed with the creative interpretations of a modern day lemonade stand. I would encourage residents to come out on June 11th and support these enthusiastic and spirited young business owners.”
Be sure and support these young entrepreneurs on June 11th…. and come thirsty!
