Chestermere, AB – Over the course of the summer, representatives from the City’s contracted assessment company, Accurate Assessment Group, will be in Chestermere conducting property assessment updates for homes that do not have a confirmation on the assessment roll for a developed or undeveloped basement.
“In order to ensure that your assessment, and in turn your taxes, are accurate, it’s very important to confirm our information is complete regarding the general condition and development of your home,” says Brenda Hewko, Controller for the City of Chestermere.
To determine the assessed value of a specific property, assessors evaluate the size, type, and age of a property, as well as its location, style, condition, upgrades, and lot size.
While properties in Alberta are assessed using a ‘mass appraisal’ method, representatives from AAG will be going door to door this summer to ensure individual properties are up to date.
Representatives will be wearing Accurate Assessment Group clothing and carry a City of Chestermere ID badge.
“If an owner is home, our questions will take 2-3 minutes. We would like to confirm assessment elements such as plumbing, fireplaces, floor finish, wall heights, basement development, garage completeness and any renovations that have taken place over the past five years,” says Bob Daudelin, Assessment Specialist with AAG.
If owners are not home, the assessors will leave a call back card. Assessors are also authorized to conduct a visual inspection of the front and back of the exterior of the home and may take measurements.
If you have made changes to your property or would like to ensure your assessment accurately reflects the condition of your home, you can view your past assessment at www.chestermere.ca/webmap or contact AAG at 1-877-438-2305 or bob@aag-gis.com.
Updated assessment notices will be mailed to each homeowner in the spring.
