Our teams have been very busy and are preparing for, or participating, in playoffs. We wish all our teams the best of luck, this week in league play, and in playoffs.
SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Senior Girls competed this week against Croxford High School, in league play, and in the Notre Dame Pride Volleyball Classic, this past weekend. The girls controlled the game from start to finish and defeated the Cavaliers in three straight sets. The team is currently sitting in 2nd place, with their only loss against the Cochrane Cobras. The Lakers handedly won all of their round robin and playoff games in 2 straight sets. Unfortunately, when it came to the finals the girls lost a tough 3rd set, 15-11 against the Ernest Manning Griffins. A valuable lesson was learned that focus, resiliency and hard work are key components to victory. The team looks forward to a competitive game against Springbank, this week, to wrap up the regular season. Haylee Bailey received the player of the week, as she dominates at the net offensively and consistently demonstrates a threatening serve.
FOOTBALL
The Cowboys took on the tough Springbank Phoenix this past weekend, in Tier 2 semi-final playoffs. Although the team lost 30-3, they showed great improvement from their first outing against Springbank. The offense had many big plays but just could not punch it in for a touchdown. Defensively the team tackled well and showed great hustle, but had trouble with the Phoenix power game. The team is still dealing with a number of injuries, but nice to see other players stepping up. This Friday the Cowboys finish their season with the 3rd place game. The team takes on WH Croxford this Friday, at 4:00, at genesis Place in Airdrie.
SENIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Senior Boys won their first league match of the season defeating WH Croxford in 3 straight games. This Wednesday the boys complete their league season with a trip to Springbank, before starting playoffs.
JV GIRLS VOLLEYBALL The JV Girls defeated WH Croxford in league action, last week, 3-1. The girls will conclude their league play, on Wednesday, with a trip to Springbank. The playoffs start the weekend after.
