What a great day for football last Monday was. The sun shined high in the sky, September 11, as the Chestermere Chiefs Atom team kicked off their season under the lights at McMahon Stadium. The big stage was set for a battle against a strong Airdrie Storm team. The young men and women did not wilt under the hot sun, but rather put on quite a strong showing. A stellar defense and potent offence was an encouraging sign of things to come for this young group of gridiron giants.
The Chiefs Atom players had a never quit attitude that carried them through the entire game. Touchdowns were made by Brodie Solvanson, JJ Garner and Nolan Querin after being set up by outstanding blocking from the entire offensive line. In turn tackles by Yusuf Taha, Gabriel Larios and Warner Danard helped out a defensive line that seemed to be in Airdrie’s backfield all night. A great effort by a fantastic group of athletes took home the victory. The Atom season kick off game was a great night and with continued hard work and dedication it will be a fantastic season! Parents, players and coaches should all be proud of their efforts.
The entire Chiefs Atom team were all smiles when they got to tour the Calgary Stampeders locker room after the game. The Chestermere Chiefs would like to thank the Stampeders for an evening our players won’t soon forget! The remainder of the Atom season will be played on Sundays in Calgary at Shouldice Athletic park.
Chiefs Atom season starts off with a bang
