Chestermere, AB – As one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, the City of Chestermere has transformed from a summer village into a vibrant urban oasis in just two decades.
Over the past few years, City officials have been pursuing an aggressive economic development strategy to bring more jobs and businesses to Chestermere. Eager to accelerate business attraction in the City’s brand new light industrial business park, the community just east of Calgary has enlisted the expertise of Colliers International.
“We purchased our own land for light industrial development in 2015 to take our future into our own hands,” said Mayor Patricia Matthews. “When seeking a broker to help us sell parcels, we were very pleased to receive proposals from several international firms. We are certain that Colliers International has the right experience and expertise to help us bring the Webster Industrial Park to the next phase of development.”
Named after the first business owners in Chestermere, Webster Industrial Park is located in the south east corner of the community and provides excellent access to Highway 1 and Glenmore Trail.
“Chestermere is an ideal opportunity for businesses looking to find an accessible and profitable location,” said Brad Pilling, Vice President with Colliers International. “We are very excited to build on the work the City has already done and help make Chestermere a thriving light industrial destination.”
The City has already sold 3.26 acres to Altalink for a future electrical substation. The remaining land will be subdivided into 1-5 acre fully serviced lots and would be ideal for companies specializing in professional and technical services, distribution and logistics, research and development and manufacturing. The City has been in preliminary discussions with interested investors for more than 61 of the total 68.1 commercially-developable acres.
“We are thrilled with the interest we have already received,” said Jean-Marc Lacasse, the City’s Economic Development Manager. “We are looking forward to working with Colliers International to move initial interest conversations into sales in the Webster Industrial Park.”
With a recently approved outline plan in place, the sales process will begin immediately in conjunction with the creation of detailed engineering and subdivision design.
It is anticipated that at full build out, the park will provide between 500 and 1,500 local jobs. It is expected to produce a profit and generate $1 Million in taxes for the City each year upon development completion. Tax revenues are not being used as a source of funding for this project.
