Chestermere’s community gardeners received a rude shock June 29 when they discovered that several plants in different plots had been uprooted in the community garden located the corner of West Lakeview Point and West Lakeview Drive.
“Somebody had come out…Thursday about mid-day and noticed a bunch of the plants had been pulled up,” said Daniel Kremer.
Kremer said that this is has been disappointing for the gardeners who have been trying to raise awareness of the community gardens in Chestermere.
The community gardens are as much about community as they are about gardening with a lot of volunteer and community involvement in caring for the plots.
“Gardening is, of course, a big part of it but it’s something that we really do to be around other people, see what other people are doing and meet other people,” said Kremer.
In addition to private plots, there are also plots for the food bank and several plots used by the middle school to augment their learning.
“A seed to table kind of idea,” said Kremer.
