The Chestermere Regional Community Association (CRCA) will be starting on some major improvement projects next month thanks to grant funding from the city.
“The CRCA appreciates the City of Chestermere’s previous and continued financial assistance,” said Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre (CRRC) General Manager Jody Nouwen.
“With their support we are able to provide quality recreation opportunities for members of the community,” she said.
Chestermere City council approved a grant of $76,000 for the (CRCA) at the April 18, council meeting.
The grant funding is divided into $41,000 for the installation of new LED lights and $35,000 for ice plant repairs.
Both projects are scheduled to begin in June and will be finished by the end of August, in time for the start of the CRCA’s busy winter sports season of hockey, ringette and figure skating.
The city’s support for these projects also frees up other CRCA funds for additional improvement projects.
“The City’s support with matching funding for the Ice plant and LED light projects for the CRCA will allow the association to make funds available to complete several other major projects in the upcoming months,” said Nouwen.
Other projects that the CRCA will be able to pay for include parking lot repairs, improving the CRCA facility aesthetics and the development of future rental spaces.
“The other lifecycle projects we will be doing work on will be funded by a variety of sources which include the Fun Money Casino on May 6th and our CRCA golf tournament July 10th,” she said, “We will continue to explore other potential funding methods available to us.”
The grants awarded to the CRCA were the first ones under the city’s new grant application and approval process.
The new process was approved in March, as the Recreation Grant Funding Policy. It provides city council with a guideline for determining where recreation funding should be allocated.
“The grant application was easy to navigate and City staff were available for support during the application period,” said Nouwen of the new process.
She said that the CRCA looks forward to continuing to provide recreation opportunities in Chestermere in partnership with the city.
“We look forward to continuing to strengthen the relationship between the CRCA and the City,” said Nouwen.
