Hopefully you have been creating, growing, canning and photographing all summer! Now it’s time to get your entries ready to submit to the Chestermere Country Fair Red Ribbon Competition on September 8, 2017. Entries are accepted between 11am and 6pm at the Recreation Centre Curling Rink. No late entries will be accepted, so if you can’t drop them off yourself, you can have someone do it for you. Entry into the Curling Rink is restricted to Committee members, volunteers and judges on Friday. However from 7pm to 9pm you can watch the judging from the upstairs lounge.

If at all possible, tag your entries and fill out the entry form before you bring them. Tags can be picked up from the Rec Centre office and the Library, and the entry form is on page 9 of the booklet. Use one entry form for everyone in your immediate family and a tag for each entry. Fill out the tag and tear off the bottom. This is your claim tag to keep. Fold the tag on the fold line and tuck the tongue into the slot to hide your name for the judging. Next, attach the tag to your entry. For entries exhibited on a paper plate, the tag can be stapled, pinned or taped to the plate. For canning entries and flowers in a vase, there will be wired supplied at the Curling Rink on September 8, or you can tie them on your jar or vase with string. Photography and other flat entries should have the tag taped to the back with the tag hanging visable below. Be sure the tag is securely attached however you do it!

Be sure to read the requirements of each class you are entering carefully. Look for information on how your entry should be displayed, how much (half a cake or a full cake), quantity of items (3 eggs or 5 greens beans), minimum or maximum dimensions, how to display (vase, plate, foil covered container), and whether a proof of purchase or your recipe is required. Your entry will be disqualified if the requirements are not met. Each person may only have one entry per class, but each member of your family can enter the same class. Family cookie bakeoff anyone? Yes, we have families that do that!

Everyone can enter the Curling Rink on Saturday between 10am and 5pm to view the Red Ribbon Competition and see all the awesome entries and see who won! Please only look, and not touch or take anything! Your entries and ribbons can be removed after 3:30pm but kids can pick up their money prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place starting at 11am at the desk. Items not picked up by 5pm will be forfeited.

Hopefully you will also be attending the Ag Society’s Fall Supper that evening. The section awards and Family Grand Aggregate will be presented at the supper at 6pm. See www.chestermereagriculturalsociety.com for the details. Pick up a Country Fair Booklet at locations around Chestermere or download it from www.chestermereagriculturalsociety.com/country-fair. See you at the Fair!
