Charlene Ukrainetz had a plan to bring home the bacon.
Some ham, ribs, pork chops and steak too.

When the Langdon resident was informed by the staff at the Buy Low she had won this year’s 60-second shopping spree she was over the moon excited.

Ukrainetz and her husband realized there wasn’t enough room in the household freezer for everything she could grab and stack into a shopping cart with a full minute to power shop.

“We only had a three cubic foot freezer,” Ukrainetz said. “When I got the phone call, we had to go and buy a seven cubic foot freezer to fit all the food. I got it on a buy and sell Facebook page for $100, so it’s not that bad for value.”

The shopping spree that took place on March 3rd went better than expected for Ukrainetz. Her goal going in was to get more than $500 worth of food, mostly from the meat section. She tallied up $987.42, and was stunned by her own shopping performance.

Prior to the shopping spree, she took some time to map out a strategy, which started with the bacon and heavy hams and worked through the rest of the meat section so nothing would get crushed.

Of course, in the heat of the moment, some of the preparation thoughts went out the window.
“I didn’t follow the strategy I thought about,” Ukrainetz said with a laugh. “I had in my head the exact amount of pieces of pork chops and this and that. I didn’t count anything.  I just grabbed whatever in any way shape or form. I think I even missed the cart a few times. Some things ended up in the cart that I didn’t even see in the store before.”

Ukrainetz is now planning to entertain friends and family a lot this summer, and no one will have to wonder “where’s the beef.”

“I’m extremely happy,” Ukrainetz said. “There is going to be a barbecue every single day this summer, as long as our kids don’t come and raid the freezer.”
