Marshall Chalmers knows what it’s like to serve the public and he has never taken that privilege for granted. This week Marshall started door knocking in Chestermere with a goal to hit every door by the time the municipal election is held October 16th.
“It is important to me to look people in the eye and hear what’s on their mind. I have been in the trenches before both as Police Chief and Mayor of Camrose. I want to hear directly from the people of our fine community. I think it’s pretty much widely acknowledged that they have been taken for granted at City Hall and I intend to change that. Public service is about doing what’s best for the people, and to my mind that starts with caring enough to listen to them.”
Marshall launched his campaign for Mayor a couple of months ago and has been busy meeting people in coffee shops and throughout the community. He knows there are thousands of homes in Chestermere and getting to them all will take a lot of work, but he is 100% up to the challenge.
“I plan to wear out the soles on my shoes,” he said. “It’s been my experience that if you really want to get to know people, you have to walk with them. We have great potential and great people in this community and it’s long past time residents were given a voice.”
Marshall has assembled a strong campaign team with new people signing up every day. His campaign manager and former MLA Bruce McAllister says it is clear people are ready for change.
“Let’s be clear: We are a City of 20,000 people and we are at a crossroads. It is absolutely crucial that we elect a Mayor and Council with some experience. Our current Mayor and Council have stacked and packed our way to an unsustainable future and it will require leadership and courage to chart a better path forward. We are fortunate as a City to have somebody with the pedigree and commitment of Marshall Chalmers stepping forward to take the reins. The fact that he is going door to door months ahead of the vote speaks volumes about the man he is.”
