Chestermere, AB –The City of Chestermere, along with Synergy, community partners, businesses, donors and residents, will come together on September 22, to celebrate the grand opening of a new community space in Chestermere.

“Council is extremely pleased to see the completion and naming of this showpiece park alongside the ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership. This area will greet visitors and residents alike in the best possible manner,” says Mayor Patricia Matthews.

In 2016, the City entered into a joint partnership with Synergy for the redevelopment of the once empty space at the corner of Rainbow Road and Chestermere Boulevard. Recognizing a need for non-profit operating spaces, the new ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership (CCL) was added as part of the redevelopment of the space. The project also included the construction of a parking lot, pathways, and a sidewalk along Rainbow Road to complement the existing skatepark.
“We’re so thrilled to officially open this beautiful new park. It was truly a community effort that residents, visitors and youth will enjoy for decades to come,” says Kathy Russell, Parks & Recreation Manager.
The building and landscaping of the park were funded by provincial grant money and generous donations from individuals, companies and organizations. Over 30 local landscape companies and volunteers came together over the summer to create a welcoming space for the community to enjoy. Donated goods included the park’s design, trees and sod.

The Grand Opening will be held on Friday, September 22 at 5 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend. In addition to the ribbon cutting and unveiling the park’s new name, the opening will also acknowledge local youth Nathan Hermann. Nathan proposed reducing plastic bottle waste by installing a water bottle filling station at the Skate Park. His dream was realized earlier this year with support from the Dave Mikkelsen Award and generous community donors.
