RCMP make arrest after vehicle flees police on Highway 1

RCMP assisted by Calgary Police Service HAWCS Helicopter

Strathmore RCMP in coordination with Brooks RCMP have laid criminal code charges against two males after they fled from police June 29.
At about 4 p.m. were notified by the Calgary Police Service’s HAWCS Helicopter of a vehicle that was driving erratically and at high speeds east bound on Highway 1 leaving the city of Calgary.
RCMP members responded to highway 1 and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle.
Instead of complying with the RCMP, the vehicle sped off. With the safety of the public in mind, police chose not to initiate a pursuit of the vehicle.
HAWCS helicopter continued to assist and tracked the vehicle as it continued east on Highway 901 and eventually turned onto a dead-end range road.
Strathmore RCMP attended that location and arrested two adult males without incident.
Police determined that the vehicle was stolen. After a search of the vehicle RCMP found it contained stolen property including tools, machinery, clothing, vehicle documents and identification.
Strathmore RCMP are working to return the recovered property to the rightful owners.
In the course of the investigation, police determined that the vehicle and suspects were wanted by Brooks RCMP in connection with the theft of the vehicle from earlier that morning in Brooks.
During that theft, the owner of the vehicle suffered an injury to his foot when he attempted to prevent the suspects from stealing his vehicle.
The two adult male suspects were held in custody while the waited for bail hearings. They are facing several Criminal Code charges including Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Breach of Probation.
They are charged with 15 shared Criminal Code charges with 8 additional individual charges.
Both males are known to police who are continuing to investigate.
