Following Calgary’s latest municipal election, CCSD is pleased to officially welcome three new members to the Board of Trustees.
• Myra D’Souza (Wards 1, 2 & Cochrane) – Myra is a strong supporter of diversity and inclusion. As a corporate trainer for Global Diversity Training, she specializes in cross-cultural competency to ensure organizations have a competitive edge. In addition, she sits on several high-performance boards including the Calgary Co-operative Association and chairs four committees. She has represented Canada at two United Nations conferences on Human Rights and has travelled and lived in 23 countries. Myra is fluent in several languages and passionate about preparing students for opportunities on the international stage. Myra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Calgary, a Chartered Director Designation and additional training in Board Governance.
• Pamela Rath (Wards 4 & 7) – Pamela has spent years volunteering for the CCSD, with two sons that are now proud St. Francis High School alumni. Pamela spent five years on school council at St. Francis, with four of those years as chair. She was involved in various committees and continues to support efforts at St. Francis. She is passionate about helping the most vulnerable in our communities and is a 17-year member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society working with parish schools to ensure families in need have access to food and services, as well as sitting on several parish committees. Pamela holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming.
• Lory Iovinelli (Wards 6 & 8) – Lory is a native Calgarian and mother of four who is passionate about the wellbeing of young people. She is a member of both the Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church and St. Michael’s Church communities. Lory holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary, with a major in French and minor in Italian. She previously taught with the CCSD before her children were born. She is a dedicated member of school council and has assumed the roles of both chair and vice-chair. She also volunteers with the Diabetes Association and the Alex Centre; two charities that she is passionate about.
We also wish to sincerely thank retiring trustees Serafino Scarpino (Wards 1, 2 & Cochrane), Margaret Belcourt (Wards 4 & 7) and Peter Teppler (Wards 6 & 8) for their years of service. Their hard work and dedication will not be forgotten.
Congratulations to incumbents Linda Wellman (Wards 3, 5 & Airdrie), Cheryl Low (Wards 9, 10 & Chestermere), Cathie Williams (Wards 11 & 12) and Mary Martin (Wards 13 & 14) who were acclaimed or re-elected as trustees. Cheryl Low will continue as Chair of the Board, while Pamela Rath will act as Vice-Chair for the 2017-2018 school year.
