A 26-year-old man from Calgary is facing several charges in connection with a break and enter Sept. 9.
Chestermere RCMP were responded to a reported break and enter in progress in the 700 block of West Chestermere Drive at about 7:30 p.m.
“A resident was looking after their neighbours home when they noticed there was an individual inside the home wearing a disguise, namely a balaclava,” said Chestermere RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz.
The suspect fled the scene after being challenged by the neighbour.
Police responded and apprehended the offender a short distance away from the home.
Wielgosz said that the man has been charged with One count of break and enter of a residence, possession of break in instruments, wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence, possession of property by crime, one count for uttering threats.
The man has been released from RCMP custody and will appear in Strathmore Provincial Court to face the charges.
The timely reporting of the suspicious activity was key to RCMP being able to apprehend the suspect.
“That certainly greatly assisted in locating this offender and taking them into custody and ensuring they face the consequences of their actions when coming to Chestermere and committing crimes in the community,” said Wielgosz.
He said that this arrest also shows the need to know one’s neighbours and to look out for one another in the community.
“It’s positive message that neighbours are looking after each other’s property by keeping an eye on what is suspicious and what is not,” he said.
