The basketball teams complete their regular league season this week. They are gearing up for the Rocky View playoffs next week and the South Central Zone Championships in two weeks.

SENIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Senior Girls had a busy week. Last Tuesday they defeated Bow Valley in their final league game of the year, 85-25, to finish their season undefeated. The girls also hosted the 35th annual Lady Lakers Invitational on the weekend. They played three of the top 4A teams in the province winning 1 and losing 2. This tough competiton will help the team prepare for the league and zone championships.

The 11 seniors were honoured at the Bow Valley game with flowers and a tribute for each player. The 11 graduating seniors represent the biggest senior class on a basketball team in school history. They have left an indelible legacy on the program. In four years together, including JV, this team has gone undefeated in league play and won three straight Rocky View Championships and two South Central Zone Championships. They hope to add one more of each championship in the next two weeks. Best of luck ladies. You have done the school, program and families proud.

SENIOR BOYS BASKETBALL
This week the Lakers Senior boys team had a bye in league play. After a week of practice, the team travelled to Okotoks for a tournament at Foothills Composite.  Their first game was against the strong host team; the Lakers came away with a tough 106 to 55 loss.  Jaxon Kolesar-Lafaut and Brett Russell lead the team with a dozen points each.  Next up for the Lakers were the Centennial Coyotes.  The Lakers held their own and were only down 51-47 in an exciting back and forth first half.  Unfortunately, the Lakers were out-scored 30 to 11 in the third quarter, and ended up losing 74-107.  The team was led by Tyrone Gray with 19 points and double digits for Jaxon, Ethan Skrypnek and Brett Russell.  The weekend wrapped up with a game against Rundle College.  Despite a slow first quarter that had the Lakers down 26-12, the Chestermere boys pushed back to keep the game within reach.  A 20 point effort from Tyrone Grey and 15 points from Brett Russell were not enough and the scoreboard showed a 78-65 loss for the Lakers.  With a week of practice ahead before facing W.H. Croxford in the first round of playoffs, the Lakers hope to have a good playoff run.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL
The JV boys travelled to Bow Valley to take on the Bobcats in the final RVSA regular season game. The Lakers played a complete game winning 76-33 and completing an 5-1 regular season and second place in the standings. Next week they will compete at the Pearson Invitational tournament followed the week after by RVSA playoffs. Their first round opponent will be the same Bobcats but this time at home in the Wilson Gym.

JV GIRLS BASKETBALL
The JV Girls played a tough game against Bow Valley, last week, but lost 57-41, in their final league game of the season. The team travels to Bow Valley, in two weeks, to open their playoff run. The Zone Championships follow the week after. The JV girls are hoping for a strong playoff run.
