GOLF
Chestermere High School were the hosts for the Rocky View Divisional Golf Championships last Wednesday. There were 5 Lakers representing CHS at the Strathmore Golf Club on a cold windy day: Mason Corbiell, Tyler Gingras, Brady Jensen, Jesse Rinehart and Cole Ross. Jesse shot an 80, Tyler shot an 84, Cole shot a 91 and Mason shot a 99. Although none of the boys placed individually, as a team they placed second in the High School Boy Division, second only to Springbank. Good job boys and good luck at the South Central Zone Championship on Wednesday, September 19 as they attempt to qualify for provincials.
GIRLS SOCCER
The girls’ soccer team came away with a victory in their home opener against Bow Valley on last Thursday. After a slow start, the Lakers began to work as a cohesive unit and improved significantly throughout the match. Chelsea Schwartz played an important role as goalkeeper with some critical saves, and Kenzie Georgsen scored both goals to earn Chestermere a 2-0 win.
SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
After a quick start with only four practices, the Senior Girls volleyball team had a great start to the season during the SAIT tournament this past weekend. The Lakers finished 3rd in their pool competing against strong Ernest Manning and E.P Scarlett teams. This pushed the girls to the consolation side, where they powered their way to the consolation final. They concluded the weekend with an exciting match against the Notre Dame Pride. The girls came up short in the 3rd set, finishing second on the consolation side. The team consists of 5 returning players and 5 rookies. The team’s performance this weekend demonstrated the natural ability of individual talents coming together as one team. As the girls continue to work together and build as a unit it will prove to be an exciting and successful season.
