City councillor sanctioned by council again

Third and fourth code of conduct complaints made against Councillor Laurie Bold

Councillor Laurie Bold has been sanctioned by city council after two more code of conduct complaints were made against the councilor.

Councillor Bold was required by a council motion passed at the July 16 council meeting to provide a written apology to council, city administration and city residents for, “being disrespectful of other members of Council and failing to treat Administration with professionalism.”

“Council recognizes that everyone has moments of frustration and disagreement, but council also believes that everyone deserves a professional and respectful workplace at all times,” said Mayor Marshall Chalmers.

The letter was required to be delivered to Chalmers by Aug. 1.

According to the agenda package for the Aug. 13 council meeting, Bold’s letter was received on July 25, well in advance of the deadline.

In a second motion passed by council on July 16, Bold has also been required to attend a Code of Conduct and ethics training session that is approved by council with proof of attendance submitted to the Mayor by Sept. 7.

According to the apology letter submitted by Bold, the code of conduct complaints that resulted in the sanctions stems from the April 10, 2018 Committee of the Whole meeting and an e-mail to interim CAO Pat Vincent that, “unintentionally went ‘viral’ on April 25, 2018.”

Chalmers said that he and the rest of council are looking forward to Bold satisfying the requirements of the sanctions so that council can move on.

“Councillor Bold continues to be a welcome member of council,” said Chalmers, “and we highly respect her role as a councilor.”
