City employee pay disclosure policy approved

The city is one step closer to publishing a public compensation disclosure list after council approved the proposed policy at the March 5 council meeting.
The policy has been created by administration on the direction of council after Councillor Laurie Bold brought the idea to council at the Feb. 20 meeting.
At that meeting, council approved of the concept, but felt the level of detail proposed by Bold went too far and passed a motion asking for salary ranges.
In the original motion brought to council, Bold requested that the policy include the name, salary, years of experience and severance pay.
Bold again expressed her opinion that the approved policy does not go far enough to provide transparency at city hall.
The policy that was approved by council at the March 5 meeting will see the positions, salary ranges and benefits available to municipal employees published online and updated annually.
The list will be created after council completes their 2018 Budget review in April.
This is due to the fact that the personnel budget will be included in that review.
