One person has been killed and another person is in hospital after a collision north east of the city January 8.
RCMP and Emergency crews were called to the scene of a collision between an SUV and a back-hoe at the intersection of Range Road 233 and Highway 564 just before 1 p.m.
The SUV, a GMC Envoy, was northbound on Range Road 233 when it collided with the Back-hoe that was also northbound on Range Road 233.
The 73-year-old driver of the Envoy was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.
“Emergency crews worked to extract the 72-year-old female passenger of the Envoy and STARS attended but, tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene,” said RCMP Media Contact Cpl. Curtis Peters in a release.
Police said that the driver of the back-hoe did not sustain any serious injuries in the collision.
An RCMP collision analyst was called to the scene to assist with the investigation, which is ongoing.
“Investigators do not believe that alcohol was a factor and all flashing lights and appropriate signage were in operation on the back-hoe at the time,” said Peters.
