Crash closes highway north of Indus

Small chemical spill contained by Hazmat crews

RCMP closed a portion of Highway 791 north of Indus May 14 after a truck carrying chemicals crashed.

The truck lost control and went into the ditch leading to a several hour closure of the highway while crews worked to clean up the collision and spill.

EMS said that a man in his 60s suffered non-life threatening injuries and had to be extricated from the wreck by fire crews before being transported by ambulance in stable condition to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

Police reported that the truck was carrying a corrosive substance and spilled a couple of the barrels in the crash.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene and were able to contain and quickly clean up the spill.
