Chestermere Utilities Inc. (CUI) announced June 21 that Lift Station 13 has been put into service, relieving the strain on Chestermere’s waste water system.
“Chestermere’s sanitary system has been operating beyond its designed capacity,” said CUI’s Chief Executive Officer Leigh-Anne Palter.
“With the completion in construction of the first phase of the Rainbow Road gravity trunk and the forcemain that runs to and from the station, we are now able to place Lift Station 13 into operation,” she said.
The lift station, which pumps sewage to a wastewater treatment plant in the City of Calgary, is now one of the main lift stations in CUI’s wastewater system.
Along with relieving the strain on Chestermere’s sewage system, Lift Station 13 and the other associated infrastructure projects associated with it have been designed to accommodate the expected growth of Chestermere of the next 25 years.
Palter said that in the construction of the newly operational infrastructure, CUI maintained a focus on both safety and on minimizing the environmental impact of the projects.
While the projects were necessary to relieve pressure on an overworked system, Palter acknowledges that the construction work was frustrating for Chestermere residents and visitors alike.
“We would like to thank the residents and visitors of Chestermere for their patience while these critical infrastructure projects were completed,” she said.
“We recognize that traffic disruptions along Rainbow Road were inconvenient and we want to express our appreciation to the community for accommodating the construction crews and activities, allowing us to complete these projects safely,” said Palter.
