Chestermere City Council announced that they have hired a new permanent Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the city.
Bernie Morton will be taking on the position of CAO of Chestermere effective August 1.
Originally from Ontario, Morton brings 24 years of experience to the job.
“Mr. Morton is coming to us with an exceptional blend of big city experience and small community understanding,” said Chestermere’s Mayor Marshall Chalmers in a press release.
“We are looking forward to having his skill set here in Chestermere as he takes on the role of leading this organization,” he said.
Morton has experience working in government, public affairs and strategic communications.
He worked for Toronto’s City Council for 10 years. Morton has also worked as CAO of the Town of Kindersley Saskatchewan.
In the announcement, the city said that Morton will be, “bringing a municipal and economic development mindset to Chestermere.”
“Increasing our non-residential tax base is a major priority for us and we believe that in addition to providing excellent administrative leadership, Mr. Morton is the right person to help us bring more industry to our community,” said Chalmers.
Morton will be replacing interim CAO Pat Vincent.
The position of CAO is the sole employee of city council and manages the rest of the municipal organization.
