One person charged after holiday check stop

Chestermere RCMP removed an impaired driver from Chestermere’s streets during a seasonal check stop Dec. 1.

In a joint operation with RCMP Provincial traffic officers and Alberta Sheriffs about 120 vehicles were checked between 11 p.m. and midnight leading to the arrest of the impaired driver.

Cpl. Courtney Currie said that the goal of the check stops is to ensure that everyone can have a safe holiday season as they travel to and from events.

“If you plan in partaking in events where alcohol and or cannabis are used then have an alternate way home, whether its taxi or friend or make alternate arrangements for a place to stay,” she said.

The random seasonal check stops will continue to run in Chestermere into the new year.
