Chestermere RCMP with the assistance of Strathmore RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a possible armed robbery at about 4:45 on Nov. 21.
“RCMP…were dispatched to a possible armed robbery in the parking lot of a local eatery where a firearm was alleged to have been brandished by the suspect,” wrote RCMP in a release.
The suspect’s vehicle, described as a grey sedan, was located by police who attempted to stop the vehicle.
The suspect fled police at high speed east on Highway one.
The vehicle crossed the median and proceeded westbound before crossing again to continue eastbound on Highway 1.
Eventually the suspect vehicle stopped and was arrested by RCMP without incident.
RCMP said that, “no one was injured in the event, and no property was damaged.”
Cavan Cachene, a 31-year-old Lethbridge man has been remanded in custody and is facing 15 charges including; Robbery, Use Firearm in Commission of Offence, Utter Threats, Failure to Stop while Pursued by Peace Officer, and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
In the course of the investigation, RCMP determined that the attempted robbery was not a random act. The attempted robbery came as a result of a, “verbal dispute,” between acquaintances.
Cachene’s is scheduled to appear in Drumheller Provincial Court on Nov. 30.
