Varsity Girls Volleyball (Ms. Taylor)
The Senior Girls Volleyball team competed in the 4A Provincial Championships this past weekend at Jasper Place High School in Edmonton. This is the second consecutive year the Lakers have won the South-Central Zone Championship qualifying for Provincials. With 12 teams qualifying for Provincials, the Lakers were ranked 12th. The Lakers started the weekend off competing against Salisbury from Edmonton, Chinook from Lethbridge and Lindsay Thurber from Red Deer. Defeating Salisbury, but losing against Chinook and Lindsay Thurber, the Lakers were ranked 3rd in their pool, going into a challenging cross over match against Hunting Hills, ranked 6th on Friday. With a competitive match, the girls were unable to come out with a win, forcing them to the consolation side. The Lakers were faced with a rematch against, the Chinook. The Lakers put on an exciting performance, defeating the Coyotes 15-13 in the 3rd set. Competing for a 9th place overall finish, William Aberhart was the Lakers final competitor. The Lakers won the first set, but were unable to finish it off, coming up short in the 3rd set 15-7. The Lakers are very happy with their top 10 finish in the Province. The Lakers had a successful season, finishing 3rd in the Rocky View School Division and 1st in the South-Central Zone. Coaches Wildman and Taylor wish all the best to their grade 12 players, Sarah Merkosky, Haylee Bailey, Kaitlyn Fehr, Leah Young and team manager Jaiden Lang.
