Chestermere Lakers Athletics – October 28, 2019

Football (Mr. Ledieu)

Lakers Football beat W.H. Croxford 11-9 in a windy and rainy game on Friday. The Lakers defense was fantastic coming up with a last second fumble recovery to seal the win. The Lakers now prepare to take on the Springbank Phoenix for third in Rockyview. Date and time TBD.

Varsity Boys Volleyball (Mr. Farrell)

The senior varsity boys had a busy but great weekend. They played in the falcons classic and did very well. They fought hard both days and had their best tournament finish from the last two seasons. Alex Nunn and Boston Marchinko were tournament all stars. They are excited to work hard for the rest of the season as they head into divisional playoffs next week and zones the week after.

Varsity Girls Volleyball (Ms. Taylor)

The Lakers played the undefeated Sprinbank Phoenix this past Wednesday. Although the team played well and fought hard, they lost in three straight sets finalizing their regular season. The girls spent the weekend in Okotoks in the Foothills Classic Tournament. They defeated Foothills Composite, Beaverbrook and Notre Dame High School in 2 straight sets putting them in a comfortable 1st place finish in their pool. The momentum carried into Saturday as the Lakers won their Quarter final game against WR Myers. With a tougher semifinal match against Grandin High school, the Lakers forced a 3rd set, only to come short, forced to play in the Bronze medal game. With the final match of the tournament, the Lakers were unable to finish on a win against the Lacombe Rams coming 4th in the 14-team tournament. Julia Pedersen walked away as the All Star for the tournament. Julia showed tremendous effort as a power hitter in crucial moments over the weekend. Well done! The Lakers look forward to a week of practice with playoffs starting November 4th. Their first match up will be the Bert Church Chargers in the Quarter Finals for the Rockyview Championships.

Basketball (Mr. Ledieu)
