At approximately 2:20 a.m., on June 4 Chestermere RCMP responded to a complaint regarding two individuals who were checking car doors in the Oakmere area.

While searching the area, one of the individuals was encountered and then fled the area on foot.

The male and female suspects were located in a vehicle parked at a nearby hotel.

However, when Chestermere RCMP were attempting to identify both individuals, discrepancies between the license plates and vehicles were noticed.

The female suspect then entered another parked vehicle to retrieve identification while the male suspect attempted to flee, striking a police vehicle.

The collision disabled the suspect and police vehicles and resulted with the male suspect fleeing on foot. HAWCS and a Police Service Dog were utilized, however, were unsuccessful in locating the male.

The female suspect was arrested for outstanding warrants, along with additional offences on site.

The investigation resulted in recovery of a stolen vehicle, a stolen license plate, falsified license plate, illicit drugs, stolen property, and property that police have yet to identify lawful owners of.

The 33-year-old female Medicine Hat resident was held in custody on charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Fraudulent Concealment, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Utter Forged Document, Failure to Comply with Recognizance X4, Operate Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Mischief.

However, the investigation is ongoing, and further charges could be added.

“It is fortunate no injuries were sustained in this incident which highlights the risks our members take to prevent crime, apprehend offenders, and keep our community safe,” said Chestermere S/Sgt. Mark Wielgosz.

He added, “I would like to thank the public for their assistance by reporting suspicious activity in our community.”

Chestermere RCMP are currently looking to locate and identify the male offender involved in the police vehicle collision.

The male suspect is described as having a slender build, short dark hair, fair complexation, facial hair stubble, and being between 5’8 to 5’10. He was last seen wearing dark pants, and a dark hoodie.

Chestermere RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance for any information in relation to the incident or identifying the male suspect.

If any residents know any information concerning the incident, or can identify those responsible, please contact Chestermere RCMP at 403-204-8777, or your local police.
