Chestermere based photographer, Bob Peters entered the Red Ribbon Competition at the Chestermere Country Fair for the first time and received first place.
“I entered five pictures, and was awarded first place on three of the pictures and third place on one,” Peters said.
“I was rather surprised. There’s beauty in everything, and photography helps find that beauty, and it’s nice to be able to share that with other people,” he added.
Peters entered an unplanned photo of someone canoeing at Lake Louise in the midst of a snow storm.
“We were on our way to a friend’s place in Salmon Arm B.C. we stopped at Lake Louise because it was snowing so heavily, I just got lucky with the canoe right in the reflection in the boathouse,” Peters said.
“The lighting conditions were great, and the positioning was great, I just got lucky with that shot,” he said.
Peters first found his passion for photography in the eighth grade after he joined a photography club in school.
“I’ve just enjoyed taking pictures almost my whole life,” Peters said.
“I’ve been doing photography for most of my life, we’ve been attending the Chestermere Photography Club for about five years, and it’s really helped me improve my skills,” he added.
Every month members of the Chestermere Photography Club are given a photo assignment, and they have to take multiple photos that fit into the requirements of the project. Members will then meet and critique the photos showcased.
“Joining the club has helped me in a number of ways. It’s helped me recognize exposure. It’s helped me recognize how to adjust a picture, how to crop a picture for the best look, and most importantly, how to position a picture,” Peters said.
He added, “Every time I do take a good picture, I recognize it right away, and it just gives me a nice feeling.”
