Chestermere residents can have Christmas cheer brought to their homes by Camp Chestermere Christmas Elves with the Candy Cane My Yard program.
“Think of Candy Cane My Yard as an Easter egg hunt, but Christmas edition,” said Camp Chestermere Director Shannon Dean.
“In times where our capacity to gather together for Christmas is limited, we wanted to spread a little holiday cheer to our amazing Chestermere community,” he said.
On Dec. 19, Camp Chestermere staffers and volunteers will be hiding candy canes and other treats all over residents’ yards for the whole family to find.
Camp Chestermere will contact each family when they are on their way to the home, and again when they are done, while following all Alberta Health guidelines.
Creating the Candy Cane My Yard program was important for Camp Chestermere, as residents are looking for holiday activities to do with their families in a COVID-19 safe way.
“We think people are looking for some fun and unique things to do at Christmas time. Christmas is going to look so different this year and so we wanted to bring a little holiday cheer. This event is in keeping with our value of wanting to be a gift to the community,” Dean said.
Adding, “Also, it is a way for us to bring in some income at this time. COVID-19 continues to impact our ability to host guest groups and this is having a negative impact on our operational budget. By supporting this event, people will be helping us to keep our year-round staff employed and hell us in a very practical way.”
Dean encourages residents to like and share the Candy Cane My Yard event on social media, and if possible, volunteer to help with the distribution of the candy canes
