2018 Chestermere homicide case closed

Four individuals have now been charged with the murder of 41-year-old Dennis Lewis

The RCMP Major Crimes have laid charges on two additional people in relation to the 2018 Chestermere homicide.

A 29-year-old male and a 37-year-old male both from Calgary have been charged with the first-degree murder of Dennis Lewis.

On Nov. 26, 2018, Chestermere RCMP responded to a residence in the West Creek Mews area of Chestermere.

Investigation revealed that an altercation took place inside the residence where a gunshot was fired.

Upon arrival, one of the residents, 41-year-old Lewis, was found suffering from an injury caused by a gunshot.

Lewis was pronounced deceased at the Foothills Medical Centre shortly after arriving there.

“There were four people believed to have been involved in this home invasion homicide, and all four are now charged,” said Southern Alberta Operations Officer for the Serious Crimes Branch Inspector, Rick Jané.

On March 23, a 37-year-old Calgary man was charged with second-degree murder, while a 36-year-old former resident of Calgary was arrested in Vancouver and charged with first-degree murder on April 23.

“This is an example of a 17-month long investigation, it provides a good example of the RCMP’s commitment to solving all homicides even those further in the past,” Jané said.

Adding, “These types of investigations often don’t get solved quickly and involve a large amount of work that is required to pull together the various pieces of evidence so we can paint a picture and figure out who is responsible. In this case, forensics and video evidence was valuable during the course of the investigation.”
