Chestermere welcomes new council

Time-for-change

The newly elected mayor and councillors are excited to get to work

Jeff Colvin was announced Chestermere’s new mayor on Oct. 18, with 2,927 votes.

“I would like to start off by saying thank you to all those who supported me and voted for me. This campaign has for sure been an interesting experience, a lot of late nights on Facebook, a lot of interesting in-depth conversations with residents, but I am extremely grateful for the experience and I’m happy to see everyone’s hard work has paid off,” Colvin said.

Adding, “I want to welcome the new councillors as well as any returning councillors to city hall and I look forward to working with all of you. I believe that our combined effort can bring this city to new heights, and I believe we all have something unique and essential to bring to the table.”

Colvin is joined by Shannon Dean with 2,522 votes, Mel Foat with 2,365 votes, Blaine Funk with 2,067 votes, Stephen Hanley with 2,397 votes, Sandy Johal-Watt with 1,952 votes, and Ritesh Narayan with 2,146 votes.

“Thank you to all the residents who believe in me and my strong will to make a positive difference in this community filled with limitless potential. I assure you I have every expectation that residents will hold me to account as I stand for fiscal accountability, transparency, and governance,” Johal-Watt said.

Johal-Watt is prepared for the task of understanding issues presented to her, analyzing the data, and bringing forth the most reasonable and viable solution for Chestermere.

“I believe in the right to freedom of speech and constructive feedback which will allow me to address the needs and wants of residents effectively and efficiently. I stand for Chestermere and will assure you I will remain approachable, honest, and accountable for my actions as your City of Chestermere Councillor,” she said.

Hanley is honoured and humbled that residents have entrusted him to represent them as city councillor.

“I would like to congratulate our new mayor Jeff Colvin and councillors, I am confident, that we will all work together tirelessly in rebuilding trust, making decisions that are in the best interest of our community, and most importantly listening with empathy to you, the residents,” Hanley said.

“I also remain thankful to everyone who supported me during the campaign, my family, friends, and mentors, and all the resident who have entrusted me with this new role,” he said.

Foat is honoured for the opportunity to represent Chestermere once again.

“I’m so glad that we have the same vision for Chestermere, and I am excited to serve this fantastic community for another four years. Thank you to my supporters, my campaign team, my friends, my family, and my amazing wife Gwen for being my rock through not only this campaign but everything I do,” Foat said.

“Thank you to all candidates who ran in this election. I understand how difficult it can be to undertake and I want to personally thank you for stepping out to represent your community,” he added. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, but we’ve got the dream team at the helm. Let’s get started.”
