The City of Chestermere announced the 2020 and 2021 Dave Mikkelsen Award winners.
Chaz Peddlesden is the 2020 Dave Mikkelsen Award recipient, and the award funds were used to purchase sailing jackets for each member of the Calgary Yacht Club’s youth race team.
On behalf of Camp Chestermere, Shannon Dean accepted the 2021 award, and the award funds were used to provide programming supplies for children who attended the Summer 2021 Day Camp program.
“The Dave Mikkelsen Award was created to continue Dave Mikkelsen’s legacy of supporting youth throughout his 12 years as Mayor of Chestermere,” said City of Chestermere Mayor, Marshall Chalmers.
Since 2010, $1,000 has been awarded annually to a youth or youth-serving group in Chestermere.
Award-winning projects included the installation of a water fountain at the skate park, the creation of a YouTube channel geared towards Chestermere youth, Camp Chestermere’s Bike Program, and a talent show.
Although this is the final year the award will be given, the legacy of Dave Mikkelsen’s commitment to engaging and improving the life of Chestermere’s youth has been embodied by all award recipients.
“Chestermere is so fortunate to have many community-minded individuals who have met different youth needs over the 12 years of the award,” said Chalmers.
Adding, “A big congratulations to the 2020 and 2021 Dave Mikkelsen Award recipients, and a thank you to all who have worked to improve the quality of life for youth in Chestermere.”
