Camp Chestermere is excited to welcome families to the first annual That Winter Thing event, from Dec. 3 to Dec. 4.
The event is in partnership with Synergy, Remax Key, Stepping Stones Mental Health, the Rocky View Chestermere Agricultural Society, Gifts of Kindness, Feed the Need, and other organizations.
“That Winter Thing is a multi-faceted event that takes place over two days and is chock-full of family-friendly fun,” Camp Chestermere Executive Director Shannon Dean said.
All proceeds will be split between the Chestermere Food Bank, Gifts of Kindness, the Rocky View Chestermere Agricultural Society and Camp Chestermere.
On Dec. 3, from 5 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. families can enjoy a Grinch-themed turkey dinner, sleigh rides, skating, photo booth, Christmas tree silent auction, a movie showing with popcorn and hot chocolate, and other family-friendly activities.
On Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., sleigh rides, skating, pictures with Santa, a Christmas tree silent auction, crafts for all ages, storytime with Mrs. Claus, s’mores and hot chocolate, tobogganing, Christmas-themed yoga, bannock making, and classic camp activities such as wall-climbing will be offered.
After popular demand, Camp Chestermere is bringing back the Christmas Baking program
“We’ve got all your holiday favourites available for purchase. All items are made in-house and are perfect for setting out for company, giving as a gift, or just enjoying for yourself,” Dean said.
Treats including Ginger Snaps, Peanut Butter Balls, Pretzel Hugs, Ritz/Rolo Sandwiches, and Whipped Shortbread Cookies are available for order.
Pick-up of baked goods orders can be done on Dec. 3 during That Winter Thing for ticket holders only, or Dec. 4, where everyone is welcome.
“People can expect a fun evening with their family and on Saturday people can expect an event similar to Family Fun Fair, Country Fair, and Halloween Howler,” Dean said.
As Camp Chestermere wants to continue being a gift for the community, finding ways for families in the community to enjoy activities together is extremely important.
“We have missed being able to do events for the community and the Halloween Howler was such a success and so we wanted to get back to hosting events,” Dean said. “It was a great opportunity to raise funds for the food bank, the Ag Society, and Camp Chestermere.”
All attendees are required to provide proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test taken within the prior 72 hours, or a record of a medical exemption in order to attend That Winter Thing. No exceptions will be made.
