RCMP seeking public assistance in finding suspect involved in residential theft
Chestermere RCMP received a report from a resident that unknown suspects entered a Rainbow Falls Blvd and Rainbow Falls Manor home through an unlocked garage door and stole items inside, between Sept. 24 and Sept. 25.
Police are still investigating the matter and are seeking the public’s assistance in checking their home surveillance cameras for possible suspects.
“The residence is between Rainbow Falls Blvd and Rainbow Falls Manor, in this area we only have one resident enrolled in the CAPTURE program and we have reached out to them for any possible suspect,” said Sgt Joe Stubbs.
Adding, “Having more people enrolled means we can more effectively investigate these crimes, and not only can we hopefully solve them, but we also hope to prevent them.”
Residents are encouraged to participate in 9 p.m. nightly routine to reduce crimes of opportunity
Between Sept. 25 and Sept. 28, two vehicles were stolen in the early morning from west Chestermere residences.
On Sept. 25, a Green Honda Civic was stolen from Rainbow Falls Passage at around 2:30 a.m. and on Sept. 28, a black Audi A5 was stolen from Lavender Way again just after 2 a.m.
Both vehicles were recovered in Calgary the following weekend.
“Protecting our homes, our vehicles, and our people is one of our key functions with the RCMP. We encourage residents to do a 9 p.m. routine that includes ensuring all vehicles are locked and valuables removed from sight, that garage doors are closed and secured and the doors to homes are also locked,” said Sgt Joe Stubbs.
Chestermere residents reminded to comply with COVID-19 restrictions
On Sept. 25 at about 9:30 p.m., Chestermere RCMP were called to a residence on Stonemere Close regarding a large party going on that was not compliant with a large white enclosed tent on the property.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health orders at the time of the event stipulated that gathering do not exceed 10 people and since the gathering was in an enclosed tent attached to the garage it was considered an indoor gathering.
The RCMP liaised with Alberta Health Services (AHS) and confirmed an offence had occurred which resulted in the issuance of tickets to the property representative for offences under section 73(10 of the Public Health Act.
“We acknowledge that the COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on people in many different ways, but it is part of our sworn duty to uphold the law. We do encourage any residents that are planning events to check with AHS to ensure their planned event is compliant with the existing health orders and that they stay aware of the changes that occur in the orders. We would prefer to answer questions in advance of an event to help ensure there is no need for enforcement actions. If we don’t have the answer or are not the agency with jurisdiction over the context of the question, we will help direct the question or concern to the appropriate channel,” said Sgt Joe Stubbs.
