Chestermere residents can expect to receive their property assessments before the end of March.
Property tax assessment are a statement given annually of the current value placed on a property and home. It provides the city and residents with information on city-wide tax distribution and individual property tax levies, the City of Chestermere website said.
“A commonly held misconception is that an assessment notice is a bill. It is not. Instead, it provides an assessment value that is used to determine the fair distribution of property tax in the city,” the website said.
The city is encouraging residents to read the assessments carefully for any discrepancies and determine if the assessment is reasonable. To compare the assessment on the notice to the typical market value of a property based on last year’s assessment by using the city’s Webmap application at chestermere.ca/webmap.
If a resident doesn’t have any concerns with their assessment, no further action is required, and they can file their assessment in records for future reference.
Questions or complaints related to the assessment must be submitted to the Accurate Assessment Group by calling 1-877-438-2305 or emailing bob@aag-gis.com.
If a resident does not agree with the assessor’s explanation or calculation, they have the right to file a formal complaint no later than 60-days from the mailing of the assessment notice.
