Throughout March, the RCMP is sharing tips and resources for how Albertans can protect themselves and not fall victim to a scam during fraud prevention month.
Every year, the Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association (ACCPA) shares resources that Albertans can use on fraudulent activity that directly impacts their community.
Topics of concern this year include cryptocurrency scams, identity theft, online scams, business fraud and scams and mass marketing and phone scams.
“Educating yourself on how to identify fraudulent activity is crucial. Today, with more and more online financial platforms and digital payment systems, there is increasing opportunity for scammers to get the better of you,” Alberta RCMP Provincial Economic Crime Team. Cpl. Sean Milne said. “We want to equip Albertans with the tools to be able to spot a scam and protect themselves, so that they may avoid any potential risk to their personal finances or information.”
