Chestermere Launches Rainbow Road North Reconstruction Project

Major upgrades planned for 2025 to improve safety and commuter access

The City of Chestermere has officially kicked off the design phase for a major road reconstruction project along Rainbow Road North. Stretching from Windermere Drive to the Highway 1 intersection, the project is expected to be completed in 2025 and aims to significantly improve safety, traffic flow, and connectivity for residents and commuters alike.
The plan will see Rainbow Road North rebuilt as a two-lane paved roadway, replacing the existing gravel and rough-surfaced sections that have long posed challenges for drivers, especially during wet or winter conditions.

Key Improvements and Timeline
The reconstruction project covers the full stretch between Windermere Drive and Highway 1 — a critical link not just for Chestermere residents, but also for travellers heading toward Calgary and the Trans-Canada Highway.
The City confirmed that design work is now underway, with site surveys, field assessments, and visits already being conducted to guide the engineering phase. Staff and contractors will be on-site over the coming months to complete these preliminary activities before major construction begins.
The full construction phase is expected to move forward in 2025, with completion anticipated before year-end, depending on weather and contractor schedules.

Enhancing Safety and Connectivity
City officials said the project is a direct response to long-standing community requests for safer, more reliable access along Rainbow Road North. The reconstruction is designed not only to enhance safety, but also to support future traffic volumes as Chestermere continues to grow.
“Projects like the Rainbow Road North reconstruction are essential as our community expands,” the City noted in a project update. “We are committed to improving infrastructure to meet current needs while planning for future demands.”

Community Feedback Encouraged
As part of the project’s early stages, the City is encouraging residents to share their feedback or ask questions about the work. Chestermere’s Project Management Office can be contacted directly by email at pmo@chestermere.ca.
Further project updates, including construction schedules and any potential traffic detours, will be posted on the City’s website and through its social media channels as they become available.
