Chestermere’s Fire Department is taking a significant leap forward in emergency care by expanding its medical training program in line with the City Council’s Strategic priority of Mindful and Responsible Community Stewardship. The department’s enhanced Basic Life Support (BLS) training now enables firefighters to perform a broader range of life-saving procedures on scene, providing critical care before paramedics arrive.
Under the new training protocol, firefighters are equipped to administer key treatments such as epinephrine injections, nitroglycerin for cardiac distress, and intravenous therapy. These advanced interventions are especially vital during critical incidents when every minute counts. The upgrade comes at a time when response times for ambulances can be longer, ensuring that Chestermere residents receive immediate medical support in emergencies.
In addition to bolstering their clinical skills, Chestermere’s Fire Engines have been outfitted with state-of-the-art Primary Care Paramedic Kits. These kits include LifePak Monitors and Defibrillators—essential for stabilizing patients during cardiac arrests. Moreover, the integration of SpCO sensors allows first responders to more accurately assess individuals affected by monoxide poisoning, further enhancing the quality of on-scene care.
The Fire Chief emphasizes that the department’s commitment to comprehensive emergency response is unwavering. “We are continuously evolving to meet the needs of our community,” he remarked. This initiative not only underscores the City’s dedication to public safety but also sets a high standard for emergency services across the region.
With this upgrade, Chestermere Fire Services reaffirms its pledge to safeguard the community by delivering prompt, proficient, and compassionate care. Residents can take comfort in knowing that their local heroes are better prepared than ever to handle medical emergencies, ultimately improving patient outcomes in our growing city.
